INTRODUCTION
THE HISTORY BEHIND SHUK
The formation of SHUK came about following the success of Spanish Horses UK, which was established by Tarma Rowles in Spain in 1999, and was arguably one of the UK's most successful Spanish Horse brokerages.
The horses sold through this brokerage have acheived outstanding results both nationally and internationally in the competition world and Spanish Horses UK worked with various riders and trainers up to Grand Prix level, regular competitors in international competitions and morphological breed shows all over Spain, trainers, presenters and breeders of PRE horses; and sourced horses for their clients bearing the brand of breeders such as: Bohorguez, Escalera, Romero Benitez, El Diabolo, Yeguada Militar, Paco Lazo, Salvatella to name a few.
After the purchase of Pinturero XX, who was son of five-times national champion, Rondeno, and was previously owned by the Bohorguez stud and trained to Grand Prix by our very own Carl Hester, Tarma decided that a move back to the UK was required, as was trying reproduce such a stunning animal who was not only truly Spanish in his nature, nobility and trainability but also a serious competition prospect who would be considered with respect in the world of predominately dressage, but also sport horses.
Pinturero XX reached Grand Prix and was sold to his very lucky owner but, by then, we already had some good base stock and (luckily) some of his babies!
We were then also lucky enough to secure through our contacts a stunning stallion branded Nobleza de la Guadiana called "Temerario", he covered several of our mares and some fabulous babies have arrived....
Over the years the livery and training aspects of the business have flourished (many thanks to Sue Stokes among others!) and we now have facilities for sales and training liveries, rest and recuperation, temporary or permanent visiting mares and youngstock.
We are also fortunate enough to be able to offer ADVANCED SCHOOLMASTER CLASSES from our yard in Cheltenham. This gives people an ideal opportunity to get to know the breed and experience some of the high school movements for, quite often, the first time which is a fabulous experience!
We do still offer a bespoke brokerage service for the more elite clientele and often have one or two "all-rounders" at home available for sale for those who are uncomfortable to fly to Spain to try horses. Please do bear in mind that, apart from the horses bred by SHUK, all others are sold on an agency basis so, although we have tried and tested horses as much as possible before we accept them for sale and WILL NOT promote any horse who we feel is unsuitable for the purpose it is being sold for we are not always able to give as much information as we are on horses we have bred ourselves.
Tarma is devoted to the equine species in general and has now developed the agency side of the business by launching a global online auction site, www.hauctions.net. which incorporates the charity arm of the company in Horses4Homes - safely re-homing unwanted horses.
